Although dental implants have become a popular alternative for replacing missing teeth, the incidence of peri-implant diseases remains alarmingly high, and implant loss or removal is accompanied by significant tissue morbidity. It has long been recognized that adequate soft- and hard-tissue dimensions are critical to the long-term success of dental implants. This symposium will bring together members of the National Osteology Group (NOG) USA and leading international experts including Dr. Anton Sculean, Dr. Devorah Schwartz-Arad, and Dr. Gustavo Avila-Ortiz to discuss strategies for soft-tissue management, novel biomaterials for soft- and hard-tissue grafting, and management of the atrophic maxilla.
Note: A limited number of periodontal residents are eligible to receive an educational grant to cover their attendance at the AAP Annual Meeting, including participation in the AAP/AAPF/OF Symposium. To qualify, residents are required to submit a letter of confirmation from their post-doctoral program directors verifying their status as resident in good standing with their registration form or within 48 hours of an online application. The Symposium is also open to other registrants who wish to participate as part of full-meeting registration. Seating is limited. Be sure to register early for this popular session.
This session is supported through an educational partnership with the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation and by an education grant from the Osteology Foundation.
Educational Objectives
- • Manage soft-tissue recession defects and marginal tissue loss around teeth and implants.
- • Evaluate novel materials and techniques for predictable augmentation and preservation of alveolar bone.
- • Implement strategies to rehabilitate the atrophic maxillary arch.
