Biography Text: Anthony A. Vargas, DDS, MS is the owner of Riverfront Dental Care, a multispecialty dental practice in North Augusta, SC. He also serves as an Assistant Professor at the Dental College of GA in the department of Periodontics. Dr. Vargas served over seven years on active duty in the United States Army and completed his Periodontics residency training in the US Army Periodontics program. He remains affiliated as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, US Army Postgraduate Dental School. Notable previous positions include: Officer in Charge, Eisenhower Army Medical Center Dental Clinic; Chief of Periodontics Fort Polk, LA; and Assistant Professor, U.S. Army Post Graduate Dental School. Dr. Vargas earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. After receiving a scholarship through the U.S. Army, he went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University. NYU was where he developed his passion for the specialty and was admitted to the honors program in Periodontics. Dr. Vargas completed the AAP LEAD program in 2022 and was the recipient of the AAPF Fellowship to the ITL in 2024. His (non-combat) military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, as well as numerous addional military military recognitions. Dr. Vargas has three publications in peer reviewed journals and has presented at the national, regional, and local levels. Dr. Vargas is married to Katie Vargas, DDS, MS, whom he met at NYUCD. Together, they have two children and reside in North Augusta, SC.
